About Us
What does RHECO stand for?
Everything our research is interested in:
Right Hemisphere function
Including hemispheric differences and lateralization.
Emotion
Which the right hemisphere is thought to be dominant for.
Cognition
Specifically, cognitive function attributed to the right hemisphere, such as visuospatial skills, attention, and face recognition.
Recovery
Mostly, in the chronic phase more than 6 months after a stroke, when many people don’t think recovery isn’t possible anymore - we want to change that!
Our Mission
Our mission is to better understand how a stroke can affect a person’s cognition and emotion, how these changes can impact their lives and the lives of those around them, and what can be done to reduce the negative impact and improve long-term outcomes.
Our Values
We are a team. Team members are supportive of each other’s personal and professional development. Each person brings their own strengths to the project, and if we collaborate, the whole team’s potential is much more than the sum of its individual members’ potential.
Questions are always welcome. They are teaching and growth opportunities. Nobody is judged for gaps in knowledge or difficulties in understanding.
We give appropriate credit to everybody who contributed to the research we publish, whether as a talk, a poster, or a manuscript. That includes the participants and funding sources.
We conduct and disseminate our research with scientific integrity. This means acknowledging its limitations, entertaining alternative interpretations, and using criticism as an opportunity to further improve the research or clarify the writing.
We do research that is worth our and our participants’ time, our home institution’s support, and our funding sources’ investment. We disseminate our findings widely.
We strive for diversity and inclusivity in the lab and in our research.
